BACKUP
Restore
The purpose of PKGBackup is to provide a complete, cloud-aware, shareable & transparent DE FACTO backup/restore solution. It also provides for iCal integration as an option. Complete: You can now schedule a backup operation and/or autobackup your data as soon as you launch the application. In addition to being able to backup/restore your active Springboard layout, you can now backup/restore, all Springboard layout data files including folders, all your repositories sources, all preferences files, all Categories (Cydia’s application) folders & hidden files. You can also have PKGBackup mark you calendar automagically thru iCal integration. Cloud-aware: PKGBackup data is stored on your device by default. You can also choose to use Dropbox™ or SugarSync™ as your primary storage. PKGBackup can be migrated your backup data form addressbook to Dropbox™. Dropbox™ or SugarSync™ are the recommend means of storage when network permits. Shareable: PKGBackup allows you to import/export/exchange the backups through an addressbook entry (See the section ‘Sharing Backups’ below). Furthermore, you can exchange backup data using Bonjour™, Bump™, Facebook™, Twitter™ & the good old email. Transparent: PKGBackup is firmware independent which means that your backup data can be ported to devices running any firmware. Once launch, you have the ability to ‘brag’ about the list of package you have on your iPhone by simply connecting to Facebook before any backup/restore operation. This will simply publish a feed into your account.

1. Tap on the active packages to view the list of packages to backup.

2. Once the 'Packages List' is display, double-tap a package to select (blue color) or deselect (black color) it. By default, all INSTALLED packages are selected.

3. To view a package details, tap once a package. Once on the 'Package Details' view, you can select or deselect it for the backup.

4. Navigate back to the main view, optionally tap on each row in the ‘Options’ section to select (blue color) or deselect (black color) data of interest and tap 'Backup' icon on the navigation bar. An address book entry will be created IF your primary storage is the addressbook. When using Dropbox™, the file is directly created in your account.

  1. 5.Sync up your iphone with your computer IF your primary storage is the addressbook AND don’t use PUSH to sync your ‘Contacts’.

That's it!

1. Tap on the active packages to view the list of packages to restore.

2. Once the 'Packages List' is display, double-tap a package to select (blue color) or deselect (black color) it. By default, all UNINSTALLED packages are selected.

3. To view a package details, tap once a package. Once on the 'Package Details' view, you can select or deselect it for the restore.

4. Navigate back to the main view, optionally tap on each row in the ‘Options’ section to select (blue color) or deselect (black color) data of interest and tap 'Restore' icon on the navigation bar.

  1. 5.That's it! All packages will be restored in their LATEST version.

Sharing BackUpS

This is best explain using an example.


Mickey & Donald bought PKGBackup. Donald want to have the same iphone/ipod as Mickey .


LOCAL SHARING: Mickey & Donald are having a coffee.

Steps for Donald:

  1. 1.Donald taps on the sharing icon on the toolbar.

  2. 2.Donald selects either Bonjour™ or Bump™ as  the way he wants to receive the data.

  3. 3.Donald then tap on a ‘Say Bonjour & Receive’ or ‘Bump & Receive’.

Steps for Mickey:

1. Mickey taps on the sharing icon on the toolbar.

2. Mickey selects either Bonjour™ or Bump™ (must be the same as  Donald selection) as  a mean for sharing its current state (‘Backup sharing’) or a particular state from the restore context (‘Restore sharing’).

3. Mickey then taps on a ‘Say Bonjour & Send’ or ‘Bump & Send’.


REMOTE SHARING: Mickey & Donald are not on the same WiFi network or more than 10ft (3m) from each other.

Steps for Mickey:

  1. 1.Mickey taps on the sharing icon on the toolbar.

  2. 2.Mickey selects ‘Email’ then ‘PKGBackup contact’.

  3. 3.Mickey enters Donald’s email then send it of.

Steps for Donald:

  1. 1.Donald receives the email from Mickey with the PKGBackup data attached as a VCF file.

  2. 2.Donald 2x clicks to import the VCF file into his addressbook (either from the device or on his computer)

  3. 3.Donald launches PKGBackup & taps on ‘Restore’ context icon on the toolbar. Voilà, it’s there!
